In the struggle to find balance between sexuality, femininity and vulnerability, my work explores the sensation of unabashed female strength and the response to strong feminine characters. The Truckers are nudes power lifting and pulling vintage toy trucks with ease. The trucks symbolize men, innocence and a journey taken. The women outsize the trucks as if dwarfing these obstacles as non-issues. While men are physically stronger, women out-muscle men with sexuality. The incongruous stripper names highlight the humorous manipulation of sexuality for power. By endearing the women to the viewer and altering the standard for strength and sexuality, what emotions occur? Ultimately I question what is true strength and beauty. The cracks, imperfections, rusting, and use of archaic objects within my sculptures are essential details to my work. They reflect the flaws that have been remedied with time and embraced as an empowering part of their history.
